The iPhone X signals a major shift in design and features for Apple. The home button and Touch ID are both gone, replaced with a beautiful edge-to-edge OLED screen. As a result, the front is all display and users need to unlock the phone with Face ID, a new facial recognition software feature.

Bigger and Better Display

Both the iPhone X and Galaxy Note 8 feature beautiful, remarkable screens. For the first time ever Apple is using an OLED display, not an LCD. Allowing for brighter and rich colors, deep blacks and improved battery life. Apple calls it a "Super Retina Display".  Samsung has used AMOLED screens since the first Galaxy, and the new Galaxy Note 8 has the best AMOLED screen to date. It's bigger, brighter, and doesn't have a big cutout at the top like the iPhone X.  The iPhone X has a 5.8-inch OLED screen that's a little taller and thinner than most phones, making it physically smaller than the iPhone 7 Plus. Giving buyers more screen in a smaller package that's easier to hold and use. Similar to the Galaxy S8.  Samsung's Note 8 has a huge 6.3-inch AMOLED screen that's also tall and skinny. So while the phone is bigger, it's not gigantic. Not everyone wants a big screen though, so that's something you'll need to decide for yourself.  Two important areas where Samsung has the upper hand is the display resolution and brightness. The Note 8 has a 2960 x 1440 Quad-HD resolution vs the iPhone X at 2436×1125. Samsung has more pixels per inch. Then, the Galaxy Note 8 screen works amazingly outdoors and has 1200 nits of brightness compared to the iPhone X at 625 nits. Samsung's phone gets twice as bright. The Galaxy Note 8 screen is bigger, better, brighter and doesn't have a gap at the top of the screen that gets in the way.
