How to Use the iPhone Bedtime Alarm
The iPhone can tell you when to go to sleep with the Bedtime alarm in iOS 10 and iOS 11. This feature will help you go to bed at the same time, which makes for better overall sleep health.
With the Bedtime alarm in iOS 10, the iPhone will show you a notification and make a noise when you need to go to bed. One catch is that it doesn’t know if you go to bed early and the notification could actually wake you up if you are a light sleeper.
Here’s how to use the iPhone Bedtime alarm and change the settings so that you wake up feeling refreshed.
How to Use the Bedtime Alarm
You’ll need to turn on the iOS 10 Bedtime alarm to use it. Right now you can choose which days to use it on, but you cannot change the schedule around from one day to the next. The whole idea is to go to bed and get up at the same time.
A study from Northwestern University in Chicago found that going to bed at the same time every night is a good part of heart health and can help cut down on stress hormones. Going to bed at the same time every night can help you live longer and healthier.
On the iPhone tap on the Clock App and then on Bedtime in the middle at the bottom of the screen.
Tap the on toggle in the upper right corner. Now, tap and drag on the go to bed time and the wake up time.
Tap on Options in the upper left to control the various Bedtime alarm settings. At the top of this screen you can choose what days to use the Bedtime alarm on your iPhone.
Below that you can choose how early you want the Bedtime alarm notification to arrive. If you occasionally go to bed 30 to 45 minutes early or you take a long time to get ready for bed, choose an earlier notification.
Now choose the Wake Up Sound from a small number of morning inspired noises. Choose if you want the phone to vibrate and also how loud the Wake Up sound should be.
Once you’ve done all this the iPhone Bedtime alarm, and wakeup alarm, are set up and good to go. You can still set alarms on the iPhone like you normally would, which exist outside of the Bedtime alarm.
