iOS 11 vs iOS 10: What’s New in iOS 11

See what’s new in iOS 11 with our deep dive into the new iOS 11 features that matter the most and how the iOS 11 vs iOS 10 comparison shapes up now that Apple showed off a new look and new options for your iPhone and iPad.

Where possible we will compare iOS 11 to iOS 10 so you know what is changing when you upgrade. This is especially important if you want to make sure Apple isn’t downgrading a feature you use every day or changing how it works dramatically.

The iOS 11 update is coming in the fall. The public iOS 11 beta is available now alongside a developer beta. You can try these new iOS 11 features free starting today. There are reasons to try the iOS 11 beta and reasons to skip it.

Apple announced over 30 new iOS 11 features on stage at WWDC 2017 and we will see new iPhone 8 exclusive features arrive with the iOS 11 update this fall. Today we are starting with the most exciting things iOS 11 can do.

The iOS 11 update is free for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, but is only coming to a select group of devices.

  • iPhone 5s and newer iPhones
  • iPad Air (All Models)
  • iPad Pro (All Models)
  • iPad 5th generation
  • iPad mini 2 and newer
  • iPod touch 6th generation

We already know that some of the new iOS 11 features will not come to all of these devices. Apple confirmed that the Apple Pay person to person feature will only work with the following devices; iPhone SE, iPhone 6 and later, iPad Pro, iPad 5th generation, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3 and Apple Watch.

Click through the slides to see the new iOS 11 features and learn more about what each new tool can do when you get access to the new iPhone update later this year.

iOS 11 iMessage Upgrades

iMessages continue to be one of the biggest iPhone and iPad features that Apple offers. In fact, it's a major reason we don't switch from the iPhone to Android. Apple ramps up the options in the iOS 11 update with tweaks and new features for iMessages.

There is a new iMessage App Drawer so that it is easier to find the apps you want while you are in an iMessage conversation. This means you can use the iMessage apps to send stickers and other short bits of information to people faster on iOS 11.

Apple also now offers Messages in iCloud. This allows you to keep all of your iMessage and Text conversations in sync across your devices using iCloud. This also means that if you delete a conversation it is deleted across all devices. This will also help keep large message thread storage in check without the need to delete threads all the time.
