Apple’s released a new iPadOS 13.1.2 update for iPad, iPad Pro, iPad mini, and iPad Air and the point release could have a significant impact on your tablet’s performance.

iPadOS 13.1.2 is the latest maintenance update for iPadOS 13 and it brings important bug fixes to iPad models capable of running the new operating system.

If your iPad is currently on iPadOS 13.1.1, your iPadOS 13.1.2 update requires a small download and you get the smallest set of changes.

If your tablet is currently running iPadOS 13.1 or something older, your update will be more substantial. That’s because the features and fixes from the updates you skipped are baked into your iPadOS 13.1.2 upgrade.

iPadOS 13.1.2 fixes lingering problems with Apple’s new operating system, but it’s also causing problems for some iPad users. Some of these problems are brand new, others have carried over from previous versions.

The current list of iPadOS 13.1.2 problems includes installation issues, issues with third-party apps, issues with Face ID, UI lag, and weird battery drain.

If you encounter an issue on iPadOS 13.1.2, take a look at our list of fixes for the most common problems. We’ve also released tips to help improve performance and tips to help improve battery life.

Apple is no longer signing on iPadOS 13.1.1, iPadOS 13.1, or iOS 12.4.1 which means you can no longer use a loophole to downgrade your device.

Unfortunately, you can’t downgrade to anything older than iOS 12.4.1 either. Apple’s closed up the downgrade path to older versions of iOS 12.

If you’re really struggling at the moment, you might try downloading Apple’s iPadOS 13.2 beta.

iPadOS 13.1.2 Update: What’s New

The iPadOS 13.1.2 update is a point upgrade which means it’s focused on under-the-hood improvements. It doesn’t bring any new features. It doesn’t have any new security patches on board either.

The update brings the following changes:

  • Fixes a bug where the progress bar for iCloud Backup could continue to show after a successful backup
  • Fixes an issue where shortcuts could not be run from HomePod

If you are dealing with one these issues, you should install the iPadOS 13.1.2 update right now.

iPadOS 13.1.2 Jailbreak

If you still jailbreak your iPad, make sure you avoid the iPadOS 13.1.2 update. The only way you can jailbreak a device right now is if it’s running iOS 12.

Jailbreak developers have teased iOS 13 jailbreak tools, but we probably won’t get a tool that’s compatible with iPadOS 13.1.2, iPadOS 13.1.1., or iPadOS 13.1 anytime soon.

What’s Next

Apple’s confirmed the next version of iPadOS 13 and iPadOS 13.2 is currently in beta testing ahead of a release later this year.

We don’t have the official change log yet but you can expect iPadOS 13.2 to bring a collection of new features, fixes, and enhancements to Apple’s slates.

To celebrate World Emoji Day, Apple previewed the emoji characters coming to compatible iPad models this fall.

The Unicode 12 update includes a new smiley face for yawning, a one-piece swimsuit, waffle, falafel, butter and garlic, new animals like the sloth, flamingo, orangutan and skunk, and a whole lot more.

These emojis are currently in beta testing and they will arrive on board the final version of iPadOS 13.2. For more, take a look at our guide to the iPadOS 13.2 update.
