Use as an Intercom System

If you have Echo devices throughout your home, you can use them as an intercom system. This is perfect for telling your family that they need to get downstairs for school or to rally everyone for dinner. 

You'll want to go into the Alexa app on your phone and rename the devices. To do this you need to go to the menu and settings, then device settings and tap on the device you need to rename. Make the name the room or location of the Echo. 

Next, you need to turn on Drop In. Open the Alexa app, tap on Communicate and then on Contacts. Tap on your profile and then turn on Allow Drop In. Then you need to say OK and you may need to go back to your Echo devices and enable drop in. 

From there you can say "Alexa Drop in on the basement", and you will be talking to the basement device. 

Amazon also offers an announcement feature that may be better for some users. Simply say, "Alexa announce that dinner's ready".
