There is a big change to how Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2XP tokens work compared to older Call of Duty games. This is very important if you decide to use these when playing.

While you may think you’re running into a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare problem as the time you can earn double XP seems to go faster, it’s due to the timing always running once you start.

Here’s a rundown of what you need to know about the 2XP situation for Modern Warfare.

How Do I Earn Modern Warfare 2XP

There are two ways that you can earn 2XP tokens in Modern Warfare. This time around you can earn by playing and when you purchase things from partners.

As you play and complete objectives and challenges you will earn Double XP tokens that you can choose when to use.

If you buy items like Burger Kind and GrubHub or other branded items, you will get codes that you can redeem.

You can redeem up to 40 hours of 2XP through these promotions. The 2XP that you earn does not count towards that limit.

Where Can I Use 2XP in Modern Warfare

Once you decide to start using the 2XP tokens, you will want to make sure that you use them in public multiplayer matches.

You don’t earn double XP when you are playing private matches or campaign.

How to use a Modern Warfare 2XP Token?

There is a 2XP sidebar that you can access on your console or PC to open this up.

Go to the pregame Multiplayer lobby and then press L3 on PS4 to open the 2XP sidebar. This will show you how much 2XP you have and then you can select a token and choose to use it.

Once activated, you will see the timer showing you how much time is left.

You can activate multiple tokens at once, but you cannot deactivate them, so only start as many as you have time to use in one sitting. Keep in mind they do not stack.

How Does the 2XP Timer Work?

Infinity Ward made a change to how the system works this year, They outline it as,

“There is a bit of a change to the system this year, as XP Tokens count down in real time whether you’re in a match or not, including the pregame lobby, when you are adjusting your loadout, or even if you exit the game.”

This means when you are in menus, in game lobbies and managing loadouts, the timer will keep going. Even if you quit the game it will keep running.
