Recently Supercell realized that the game is starting to slow to a crawl, and players simply don't have enough in-game currency to upgrade cards and progress in the game.
In 2018 the developers made a lot of changes to fix the gold shortage. We get double the rewards, Clan chests, special challenges and more. It's still not enough. I'm a high level 11, with multiple 50,000 upgrades, even more 20k upgrades, and nearly no gold. At this point, it will take me over a year to even start these upgrades, not to mention the next few. Even the Royal Pass each month doesn't give enough rewards to let me upgrade everything necessary. I feel like it's a lose-lose, at least for me. Special offers helped for a while, but now the gold shortage is coming back around. Approaching level 11 all the upgrades cost 20,000 each. I have over 40 cards to update, but no gold. No game should cost $10,000 real dollars to upgrade troops. Yet that's how much people can spend in Clash Royale. Seriously.
Yes, Supercell added daily quests and things like free chests in the shop, but it's still not enough. The quests are confusing and don't give anyone an incentive to play. We want quests similar to Clash of Clans, or something that's easier to understand that will yield real rewards, and big rewards. I'm not a fan of the Quest system now, and the Gold Rush mode has a cap, which is lame. We need something, anything, to shake up the gold shortage. For those saying to only upgrade what you need, no -- that's the problem. Hog users will keep using the hog, Royal Giant users will stick to him because nothing else is upgraded to a tournament standard. No other cards are viable. See my point? We need more gold to upgrade all of our troops!
