Despite a promise that pre-orders of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play would only begin to ship on May 25th to coincide with the launch on May 26th, the U.S. CDMA model has already begun to ship by Verizon Wireless. A reader had sent in screenshots of his FedEx tracking to Droid-Life, which shows that the package has been picked up from Verizon’s warehouse with a delivery date estimate for May 23rd.
Another high profile phone that seems to have been made to consumers early would be the Motorola Droid X2, which is also slated to launch on May 26th alongside the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play. That phone is said to be available for purchase at select non-corporate owned Verizon Wireless stores ahead of the general availability launch date.
The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play combines work and play into a convenient form factor powered by Android. The device utilizes Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but also comes with a game pad controller. The XPERIA Play is the first Android phone with a game-centric approach.
