Everthing We Expect Apple Will Announce in 2018

This is what you can expect from Apple in 2018. From the 2018 iPhone and iOS 12 to AirPods 2 and the AirPower charging mat, we already know a lot about what Apple will deliver this year. There are also many new Apple computers coming including the 2018 Mac Pro and a much awaited 2018 MacBook Pro.

There is a good chance that we will see a March Apple Event to kick off 2018 with a focus on the iPad, iPhone SE 2 and potentially connected with the Mac Pro and accessories, but Appel has yet to announce this event. The next event is likely in June for WWDC where we should see iOS 12, a new version of macOS and perhaps a new MacBook Pro and other devices. Finally, count on a September Apple event for the iPhone 11, two other iPhones and an Apple Watch 4.

Will we finally see a 2018 Mac Mini? What about a 2018 MacBook Air? Tim Cook said the Mac Mini is still an important part of the lineup, but it’s unlikely that we will see a MacBook Air refresh this year as Apple pushes towards the newer lineup of notebooks.

Everything we expect Apple will announce in 2018.

With over a dozen different items on the list, there is a lot for Apple to deliver. This isn’t even including the HomePod that Apple delayed until 2018 after announcing it alongside the iPhone X in September 2017. Here’s a closer look at each of these items we think Apple will announce this year.

3 New iPhones

3 New iPhones

In September we expect to see Apple announce three new iPhones. The naming convention for the 2018 iPhones isn't clear year, but it looks like they will all come with edge-to edge displays. Two will feature an OLED display like the one found in the iPhone X, and a third will use a LCD display like the iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus and arrive at a cheaper price.

Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities believes all ofd the 2018 iPhones will come with FaceID and TrueDepth cameras. This will effectively wipe TouchID and the home button off the new iPhone models. Here's what Kuo expects the breakdown to look like.

  • iPhone 11 Plus - 6.5-inch OLED display
  • iPhone 11 - 5.8-inch OLED display
  • iPhone 8s/9 - 6.1-inch LCD display

Expect to see Apple build in support for faster LTE connections and better battery life. We may see a bump in camera technology and ARKit related technology, but it is still quite early in the rumor mill for any specifics.

We could see Apple call these the iPhone 11 or iPhone XI and the iPhone 11 Plus, or go with a different naming scheme, it's tough to say at this point. We are reaching the point in naming cycles where Apple could simply reset and call it the iPhone, similar to the iPad and MacBook Pro naming schemes. Here's why you should wait for the iPhone 11, and why you shouldn't start waiting yet.
