We could see a cheaper iPad this year. Apple is reportedly working on a $259 iPad that could arrive near a Spring Apple Event. 

Apple already sells a 9.7-inch iPad for $329, but the new model would arrive with an even cheaper price tag and this could be aimed at competing better with Amazon and Android tablets that rule the cheap tablet landscape. 

The latest information comes from DigiTimes, which has an iffy track record, so this may not come to fruition, but there is a decent chance Apple will target the cheap tablet landscape near a Spring Apple Event.
