If you have a game that supports two or more players, you don’t need to pay Nintendo to take advantage of it. You don’t need to buy any new accessories either.

Nintendo Switch supports wireless co-operative play without an internet connection. If you and another gamer both have a Nintendo Switch and a copy of the same game, you can play with or against each other on the same system. This feature supports up to four players with their own console and game. Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart 8 are great showcases for this feature.

You can also play games and avoid connecting to the internet with local co-operative play. To get the feature working, go to the controller menu and switch the console from seeing the Joy-Cons as one controller to two. Mario Kart 8 lets four gamers play this way.
