There are quite a few rumors surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S4 at the moment including several regarding its launch date, release date and features. However, the latest rumor may just be the most intriguing one yet as a report claims that the Galaxy S4 will feature “floating touch” technology that would allow users to navigate content on the display simply by hovering over it with a finger.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 is one of the most anticipated devices of the year as it is the follow up to the wildly popular Samsung Galaxy S3, a device that has sold over 40 million units world wide. Rumors suggest that Samsung will be making some upgrades to the Galaxy S4 including a larger display with 1080p resolution, a quad-core processor, 13MP camera, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and quite possibly some powerful Wi-Fi and fantastic battery life.
Samsung is also rumored to be announcing the Galaxy S4 with wireless charging support though that may not be the only magic that the company includes on its next-gen smartphone.
A new report from Korean publication DDaily suggests that Samsung may include Atmel’s latest maXTouch S sensors on the Galaxy S4 which could allow users to make on-screen gestures without touching the display. That means users would, in some use cases, be able to contact the display simply by hovering over the screen.
The Galaxy S4’s display is said to be in the 5-inch range and because of its size, a feature like this would likely be a welcomed one as it could make screen navigation much simpler.
This type of technology has been featured on other phones like the Sony Xperia Sola and the Pantech Vega LTE but never in a high-profile phone like the Galaxy S. And, as the report points out, the feature used up a significant amount of battery life which left it more as a gimmick rather than a useful feature. These new sensors from Atmel are said to provide better battery life which is obviously something that Samsung will be looking for from the Galaxy S4.
Already we’ve heard rumors that Samsung may be including a new Wi-Fi chip that could help provide ample battery life to Galaxy S4 owners and previous rumors have suggested that it would have a 2,600 mAh battery and quite possibly, a Exynos 5 Octa processor which could help increase battery life as well.
The Galaxy S4 is currently rumored to be arriving next month with March 15th and March 22nd both being rumored as possible launch dates. The Galaxy S4 isn’t expected to be released until April.
