U.S. carriers remain quiet about their plans for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge but the US Samsung Galaxy S6 release date continues to gain ground behind the scenes.
Earlier this week, several U.S. carriers confirmed the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge for arrival. Among them, the top five carriers in the United States, a list that includes AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, and Verizon Wireless. While those carriers and a few others (Boost, MetroPCS, Cricket) confirmed the Galaxy S6 release, they left out many of the important details including the Galaxy S6 price, Galaxy S6 Edge price, Galaxy S6 release date, and the Galaxy S6 Edge release date.
Samsung’s confirmed an April 10th release date for 20 countries but it’s still not clear if the United States, a key battleground, will be a part of the initial release. With more than a month to go before the Samsung Galaxy S6 release date, carriers still have plenty of time to announce their intentions but that doesn’t mean that consumers aren’t starving for details.
This week, we’ve picked up on a few bits of US Galaxy S6 release date information. We still have nothing specific other than U.S. Cellular’s pledge to release the two devices in April, but we now know that several Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 releases are gaining ground ahead of April.
Yesterday, the Verizon Galaxy S6, Verizon Galaxy S6 Edge and T-Mobile Galaxy S6 Edge models cleared the FCC, a huge step towards their upcoming release dates. FCC approval is a necessary step towards a public release. Today, more Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge variants have received necessary certifications, a sign that their release dates, and release date announcements, are getting closer.
- Verizon Galaxy S6 – SM-G920V
- Sprint Galaxy S6 – SM-G920P
- U.S. Cellular Galaxy S6 – SM-G920R4
- AT&T Galaxy S6 Edge – SM-G925A
- Sprint Galaxy S6 Edge – SM-G925P
- T-Mobile Galaxy S6 Edge – SM-G925T
- U.S. Cellular Galaxy S6 Edge – SM-G925R4
- Verizon Galaxy S6 Edge – SM-G925V
These are big steps toward the public release and with the Verizon Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge models now through Bluetooth and FCC, it should only be a matter of time before Verizon makes a public announcement regarding the Galaxy S6 release date, Galaxy S6 price, Galaxy S6 storage, and more.
Carriers in the United States still haven’t confirmed Galaxy S6 pre-orders though with a month to go before the start of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge release, there’s still a lot of time left. U.S. carriers have historically offered pre-orders for flagship Android smartphones and the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are about as big as it gets.
The all new Galaxy S6 comes with an assortment of upgrades including a 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display with 577 ppi, Exynos 7 octo-core processor from Samsung, 32/64/128GB of storage with no microSD card slot, Android 5.0 Lollipop with a new version of Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface, a 16MP camera, a 5MP front-facing camera, Cat.6 LTE, and a 2550 mAh (Galaxy S6) and 2600 mAh battery (S6 Edge).
Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Edge will come with similar specifications though its will feature a unique curved display that bends down over the two sides of the phone. Both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Edge eschew plastic in favor of a bold new design that features a combination of metal and glass that also features Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4.
The Galaxy S6 Edge is confirmed for all five major U.S. carriers but it’s not expected to arrive for smaller pre-paid and regional carriers. We could see announcements come late though niche Galaxy S and Galaxy Note devices typically stick to major U.S. carriers.
