When the Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery release arrives, you will get your first chance to explore Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in years. For hardcore fans of the series, that’s huge.
Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery is an all-new game coming to iPhones and Android devices sometime in 2018. Portkey Games, a part of Warner Brothers Interactive, will publish the new title. However, Jam City, the studio known for Cook Jam, Avengers Academy and Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff, is developing the mobile game. The two companies confirmed the Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery release for 2018 in a recent interview.
Here’s everything that we know about the Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery release so far.
Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery Release Window
The Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery release date is set for sometime in 2018. Jam City and Portkey Games revealed the release window on the game’s website. Jam City also confirmed that release window in recent Tech Crunch profile.
Despite being a smartphone game, Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery is not an augmented reality game. That is, unlike Pokémon GO or Harry Potter Wizards Unite, you can play the game without leaving home. Because of that, Jam City doesn’t have to wait for warmer weather to launch their game as Niantic must do for Wizards Unite.
Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery Story
Expect a lot of school intrigue and class visits when the Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery release date arrives. It’s called “Hogwarts Mystery” because it’s a simulation of the famous wizard school that Harry Potter attends or visits in all seven books and movies.
You create your own young witch or wizard in Hogwarts Mystery. Next, you’re accepted to Hogwarts. Jam City promises the game is a detailed recreation of the school from the books and movies. And, according to the Tech Crunch profile, this Hogwarts experience includes attending potions class and Defense Against the Dark Arts. If those are included, its possible Divination, Transfiguration, Astronomy and Care of Magical Creatures are also in the game. Dueling Club is the only after school activity confirmed so far, but it’d be a huge oversight to not include Quidditch matches and practices.
Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery takes place before the events of the final movies. We know that because Jam City has confirmed Professor Albus Dumbledore is in the game. J.K. Rowling won’t write any dialogue or stories for the title. Instead, Matthew London (who wrote the book 8th Continent) and Jam City’s Allen Warner will pen the game’s dialogue and story arc.
Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery Price
We’re as sure as we can be that Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery is a free-to-play game. Every licensed game Jam City has created costs mobile gamers nothing.
If true, Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery will have an in-game currency that you earn by completing tasks or buy more of with in-app purchases. Since it seems to strictly follow Harry Potter lore, expect this currency to be called Galleons, like the currency in the books that Harry uses to purchase parchment, quills and other school supplies.
Pre-register for Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery
The Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery release date is still far enough away that Jam City and Portkey Games are encouraging anyone that’s interested in more details to pre-register for on the official Hogwarts Mystery website. If you do pre-register, expect an email once the game is ready to play on your iPhone or Android device. Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery will also launch in the Amazon App Store.
Modern Combat 5: Blackout
The fifth installment of one of the most popular shooter games for Android has to be near the top of our list, and that's Modern Combat 5: Blackout developed by Gameloft. It's also completely free now after dropping the $4.99 price tag. It does rely a lot on an internet connection though.
MC5 features some of the best graphics to date on mobile, stunning gameplay, tons of action, and plenty of grenades to throw. With Modern Combat, you get an excellent and exciting fast-paced storyline for campaign mode. Basically, the world is on the brink of anarchy and you must fight through it. Then it has an excellent multiplayer mode where you can build your own squad of killers, and five different classes to level up.
The Spec-Ops missions are extremely fun too, and great for wasting time. Not only does this game have great graphics and music, the voice-overs are real actors and makes it feel very realistic. This game is a must download, especially those with a controller or NVIDIA Shield.
Personally, I've stopped playing MC5 and my new favorite is Guns of Boom. Either one could top this list.
