How to Download Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC

The Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC is finally here, and there is a new way to download the new Black Ops 3 maps. Unlike the traditional download options for DLC on PS4, Xbox One and PC — the maps are already on your console or Computer. This short guide will show you how to download the Awakening Black Ops DLC to your Xbox One, PC or PS4.

You first need to install the March Black Ops 3 update to your Xbox One, PC or PS4. This includes a collection of fixes as well as the map files that you need. It builds on the February Black Ops 3 update that first put the maps on your console.

You will need to make sure that you install the 1.07 update before you try to play the Awakening DLC maps or Zombies content.

Although Treyarch and Activision bundle the Awakening DLC maps and Zombies content into the March update you must purchase the Awakening DLC for $14.99 or the Black Ops 3 Season Pass for $49.99 to play these maps.

Once installed you still need to activate the Awakening DLC, which is confusing for some players, since the maps are technically already installed.

How to Download Awakening DLC on Xbox One, PC & PS4

The first thing you need to do is download the March Black Ops 3 update to your  Xbox One, PC or PS4. This file appears very large at over 9GB, but you are simply downloading an additional part of the file.

When you start your Xbox One or PS4 for the first time it should start downloading the Black Ops 3 update, but if it doesn’t opening the game should likely force the download to start. You can see the progress in the Notifications area on your console.

Once this is complete you still need to activate the Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC, even if you already bought it or the Season Pass.

To do this open Black Ops 3 on your Xbox One and go to the Store section from the main menu. Select Map Packs on the left side of the screen.

If prompted you may need to go to the Xbox Store or Steam and click download to download a very small file.

With all the new maps the Xbox One Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC size is smaller than expected.

Once this is done you should be able to select the Awakening Map Pack on the Map Pack portion and see that it is available.

Once this is all done you should start to see the DLC maps appear in rotation in all the Black Ops 3 playlists online. If you need to check that it is installed, you can start a custom game and choose the DLC portion to use the new maps in an offline mode. This also allows you to explore the maps and find the best places to run, slide and ambush others.

If you have any problems seeing the Awakening DLC in the Call of Duty store inside Black Ops 3 you should try restarting the application. Go to the main screen, press the menu button and then choose Quit. If that fails, you should try to restart your console.
