How to Reboot a Frozen LG G8

Published

on

In this guide we’ll explain how to reboot a frozen LG G8 ThinQ. If your phone is acting up, frozen, completely unresponsive or just won’t turn on we’re here to help. Follow our easy steps below instead of calling your carrier or customer support for troubleshooting.

These days phones have premium designs with fancy features like wireless charging and water-resistance, but that means the back is not removable. You can’t just pull out the battery if your phone is frozen. Instead, you can use the button press method we’ve detailed below.

How to Reboot/Soft Reset the LG G8

Did you know a quick reboot will fix most LG G8 problems? In fact, doing a soft reset (reboot) is something we recommend everyone should know. As a reminder, this will not erase any data or content on your phone.

  1. Press and hold the Power+Volume down buttons for about 8-10 seconds until the device powers off and back on.
  2. Release the buttons when your phone vibrates and the LG logo appears.
  3. Allow up to 30 seconds for the reboot to complete.

“If your device is unresponsive, frozen, or the screen is blank/black, press and hold down the Power button and Volume down key for 8 seconds to restart it.”

This procedure is completely safe and you will not lose any data, photos, videos or information from your phone. Keep in mind that any apps open or browser windows will get closed, but that’s all.

It’s worth noting that if your phone was very frozen or had a hard crash it may boot back up to what’s known as maintenance mode or safe mode. Follow the instructions on-screen to navigate with the volume keys to the “reboot” option, then press power to select reboot. Use caution in this mode and only select reboot.

Here’s our list of common LG G8 problems and quick fixes if you’re facing other issues. Then, don’t forget to buy a case to keep your phone safe, and we recommend a screen protector too.
