HTC One M9 Android 5.1 Update: What You Need to Know
As the summer months continue more and more manufacturers are busy delivering the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop update, and that includes HTC. Over the past month we’ve seen a lot of progress from HTC, and they’ve begun delivering Android 5.1 Lollipop for the new One M9. Here’s what owners need to know.
The HTC One M9 was released in early April running Android 5.0 Lollipop, and has since received a few maintenance updates aimed at fixing features, improving the camera and more, but no Android 5.1 Lollipop. While Samsung and LG have been busy pushing out Android 5.1 and Android 5.1.1, we’ve yet to hear from HTC, until two weeks ago.

It appears that July will be the month HTC delivers the highly anticipated bug fixing update to its latest device. In June the HTC One M9 Android 5.1 Lollipop update leaked to the press, and a few custom ROM’s were released with all of the changes and new features. However, for the millions of regular owners that are waiting for the upgrade, today we have more good news for those on AT&T, and other carriers.
In April during the first week of the HTC One M9 release a major software update arrived, then another in May was delivered to improve the camera and extend battery life. However, with Android 5.1 Lollipop a lot more is coming.
Since being released the HTC One M9, along with many other smartphones from other manufacturers, has been riddled with small issues due to problems in the original Android 5.0 Lollipop release. Google quickly pushed out multiple updates, including a huge boost to Android 5.1 and then again with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

The update to Android 5.1 and Android 5.1.1 fixed tons of problems that were plaguing all users. Mainly the memory leak problem that was causing apps to slow, freeze and eventually crash. Not to mention tweaks the the notification pulldown bar, quick settings, quick toggles, do not disturb and volume controls, general security enhancements and bug fixes.
With Android 5.1 Google made tons of changes, all of which users with the HTC One M9 have been patiently waiting for. Along with those HTC has made some significant changes as well, which we’ll detail in the slideshow below. why have the carriers removed the multi user support?

My wife has tried several times to do the update (AT&T version). Hers is evidently one of the few who fail to update because of a missing file.
