iOS 12 Release Date Tips & Tricks

Now that iOS 11.4.1 is out, all eyes are on Apple’s incoming¬†iOS 12 update. With the iOS 12 release date just weeks away, now is a great time to start prepping for its arrival.

Apple’s iOS 11.4.1 update will most likely be the final version of iOS 11. The company hasn’t confirmed iOS 11.4.2 and we don’t expect it to roll out a new iOS 11.5 milestone update this summer with its next operating system so close.

iOS 12 is the next version of iOS for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch and its headed out to select iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches sometime this fall.

Apple hasn’t confirmed a specific iOS 12 release date, but all signs point to an arrival alongside new iPhones and iPads in the usual launch window.

iOS 12 Release Date

Apple is reportedly working on new hardware including three new iPhone models and new 2018 iPad models. The devices are expected to launch in September which means we’ll more than likely see iOS 12 arrive sometime that month ahead of their respective release date(s).

Apple is currently on the seventh iOS 12 beta for developers, fifth beta for those in the public Beta Software Program, and we expect the company to release one or two more betas this summer. The company typically pushes at least six betas before it feels comfortable pushing a new operating system to millions of users around the world.

Beta testing will likely continue through the company’s fall media event where it will likely announce the global iOS 12 release date on stage. We expect the final iOS 12 beta, the Gold Master (GM) to arrive in and around that launch date. Once the GM arrives, the official iOS 12 release will be imminent.

The iOS 12 beta will drag on for a few more weeks, but don’t let that stop you from preparing for the iOS 12 update’s arrival. There are a few things you can, and probably should, do before Apple makes things official.

In this guide we’ll go over some tips and tricks that will you prepare yourself, and your device, for the highly anticipated iOS 12 release date this fall.

Start Preparing for Your Move to iOS 12

We've still got a few weeks to go, but make sure you use this time wisely. Many of you will benefit from doing some prep work ahead of the iOS 12 update's arrival.

You don't need to go all out just yet, but there are a few things you can do to make your life easier on release day.

First, if you're running out of storage, now would be a great time to do some cleanup. iOS 12 will likely be a sizable download and cleaning out your storage will make for a more efficient installation process.

If you don't have enough space to install iOS 12 you'll be forced to temporarily delete apps and other files to make room. If you use this time to get rid of files you no longer need, you won't have to deal with this. A little cleanup could also help speed up your phone or tablet.

Go into your device's storage and see if you can't find files (music, photos, videos, etc) you no longer want and delete them or move them somewhere like iCloud.

You should also start backing up the data stored on your device(s). This is extremely important if you store important data on your device.

If you haven't mastered the backup process, you'll want to dig into our guides covering the iCloud backup process and the iTunes backup process.

You should also make sure you've got all of your logins saved or handy. When you install iOS 12, it'll likely ask you to login with your Apple ID and you may get logged out of some of your apps and services.

If you don't want to spend time tracking down all of those details, you'll want to make sure you have them ready on release day.
