Faster LTE on the iPhone 6s
Apple will reportedly move to a new Qualcomm chip to double LTE speeds on the iPhone 6s. With this new chip inside, the iPhone 6s may be capable of vastly faster LTE downloads, but the real world speeds and use will need supporting cellular networks that can deliver faster speeds.
Better iPhone 6s Battery Life
Apple will use a combination of features to deliver better iPhone battery life with the new iPhone this year. The iOS 9 update includes a 1 hour boost to the iPhone 6 battery life and a 3 hour boost in low power mode.
Inside the iPhone 6s we may see a slightly larger battery according to 9to5Mac, and we should also see more power efficient parts. The Qualcomm chip that can deliver faster speeds is also more power efficient, which can translate to better battery life while using LTE.
Pink iPhone 6s Color Option
A new report from PhoneArena, citing a Wiebo posting, claims that Apple will not offer a Rose Gold iPhone 6s color, but will instead focus on delivering a pink iPhone 6s with a white front. Apple currently sells a pink iPod touch and pink iPhone 5c, but if true this would mark the first time a flagship iPhone arrived in pink.
Major iPhone 6s Camera Upgrades
The PhoneArena report also outlines key iPhone 6s camera upgrades to the front and rear cameras. The front facing FaceTime camera will see a bump up to 5MP from a 1.2MP camera on the iPhone 6s. Earlier rumors hinted at a panoramic option for front facing camera.
On the back of the iPhone 6s, we could see a 12MP camera that can record 4K video. Many Android devices are capable of recording 4K video, but the iPhone 6 does not do this without a hack that takes still photos to pull off higher resolution video.
New NFC on iPhone 6s
Inside the iPhone 6s we will see a new NFC chip that includes a secure element built-in, according to a 9to5Mac report. The iPhone 6 uses a separate secure element that adds to the space needed inside the iPhone. As part of this report the publication details a major reduction in chips used that allows for a smaller motherboard and increased power efficiency.
The iPhone 6 Is Still Worth Buying
We've been using the iPhone 6 since its release in September and while we're excited about the iPhone 6s release, we're also excited about how well the iPhone 6 and its features have held up over the nine months. This is still an excellent phone.
The iPhone 6s release date is still unknown though it's most likely going to take place alongside the iOS 9 release in the fall. Smart money is on September for both. More than a few of you will be able to hold out until then, many others won't be able to.
This month, we outlined a few reasons why the iPhone 6 is still worth buying. We recommend taking a look at that if you're feeling the pressure to pick up a new phone. Some of you might wind up buying the iPhone 6 rather than the iPhone 6s.
