The Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 release date is here and while you can go to some stores at midnight, you need to go to GameStop earlier if you want Black Ops 4 as soon as possible.
Best Buy is still at midnight, but you can go to GameStop at 8:00 PM local time and pickup your copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
Midnight release date events aren’t as big as they used to be with digital downloads that you can pre-load and play as soon as the clock hits 12:01 AM, or 9:01 PM Pacific, but they are still a good option for many gamers.
We know that Best Buy, Xbox and PlayStation all plan midnight release date events, but not every store will be open at midnight. If you are on the west coast, more stores will be open since the release is at 9:01 PM Pacific on October 11th, instead of at midnight.
You can head to most of these and still get your choice of the special Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 editions, even the new Mystery Box at Best Buy. You can still get the best Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 deals and pickup at midnight.
Early Midnight Black Ops 4 Release Date Locations
Best Buy and GameStop are the best locations to go for Black Ops 4 midnight release date events. Best Buy confirmed a number of store locations that are open for special late night releases.
GameStop is selling Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 at 8 PM local time today. Here’s what they have to say;
“We’re excited that Black Ops 4 is almost here. For pre-order customers, Call of Duty Black Ops 4 will be available for pick up tonight at 8 p.m. local time at GameStop stores. Before playing for the first time, players will need to download and install a day one update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 of approximately 55 GB. This update must be installed completely in order to access Multiplayer, Zombies and Specialist Headquarters. Blackout is fully playable once installation is about 30% complete (approximately 16-20 GB). Download time may vary by region, provider and platform.”
You can also expect to go to Walmart and Target to pick up Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 at midnight, but these locations may not be prepared with the game on store shelves or staff to hand you the game without looking for it in the back or in a box.
Best Buy lists the locations that open at midnight Eastern, 9:01 PM Pacific, so you can plan ahead. Not every store will open late for the release, especially in areas outside of major cities. Check here to see if your Best Buy location will be open.
If you plan to go to a midnight release event you should pre-order to speed up the process. If you don’t have a pre-order you can expect to wait until after all pre-orders are handled.
Another option is to buy Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 from the Xbox Store, PlayStation Store or Battle.net. If you go this route you can pre-load the game and play right at midnight. This is the best way to play right at midnight, but be careful if you buy the digital game from another retailer. If you buy at Best Buy, Amazon or GameStop, you may not get your code in time to pre-load and play early. This isn’t as much of an issue as it used to be, but read the fine print.
Buy If You Love The Look of Mutliplayer
We know a lot about the the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 multiplayer experience from Treyarch, Vonderhaar and the last month of play. This is a very grounded game, but it is much faster than Call of Duty: WWII. Sliding is a very nice addition, and something I personally missed greatly during last year's Call of Duty game.
Treyarch continues to fine tune the weapons in multiplayer and new weapons are still coming, but overall you now have a very good idea of how the game plays and how it will play for the long run.
Specialists are back with loads of new abilities and you now have to heal your character in the game instead of it automatically happening. The Pick 10 system is back and so are perks, so you get a classic Black Ops gaming feel. Everything feels fast and fluid, like you expect from a Black Ops game.
With no story mode, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 multiplayer is a bigger component and if that is what you love about the game it's a good reason to buy now and get started with your progress towards prestige.
