After selling out within hours during an early drop sale, the phone is now available as of June 27th. Below is everything you need to know about the OnePlus 5 release, pricing, specs, and shipping details for potential buyers.

While OnePlus isn’t a household name, over the past few years they’ve carved out a nice spot for themselves in the smartphone market. By offering flagship devices comparable to the latest Samsung Galaxy or iPhone at half the cost. The new OnePlus 5 with dual cameras starts at just $479.

In previous years OnePlus sold amazing phones that always had one small compromise, the camera. New to the OnePlus 5 is a completely redesigned dual camera setup on the back, that promises to take on the iPhone 7 Plus and Galaxy S8.

Here, in an effort to help buyers find what’s right for them, we break down the OnePlus 5 release for the US and around the globe.

OnePlus 5 Release Date

The all-new OnePlus 5 has an official release date of June 27th worldwide. With its earlier devices, the company had an invite system that was frustrating for buyers. Making the phone impossible to get for months on end. That isn’t the case with the OnePlus 5. The phone is readily available in two colors and configurations for anyone and everyone. We’re not sure how long it will remain in stock, so hurry and get one now.

Simply navigate to OnePlus.net and buy the new OnePlus 5 right away. On June 21st a few lucky buyers got it before the release with the “early drop” code below but that offer has since expired.

Now that the phone is readily available we’ll have to wait, watch, and see how long it stays in stock. Previous phones sold out fast and we’re expecting a similar situation this time around.

Last but not least, OnePlus is selling the phone at pop-up stores in New York, London, Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, Helsinki, and Copenhagen on June 21 and beyond. These stores may close at any moment. If so, buy it online instead.

OnePlus 5 Specifications

This is a true flagship smartphone with top-of-the-lines specs across the board. It rivals the latest Galaxy S8 in every category, except for the display. The company is using a premium all-metal frame, with durable Gorilla Glass 5 to protect the screen. Here’s what completes the powerful OnePlus 5, all for just $479.

OnePlus 5 Specs

  • 5.5-inch 1080p HD AMOLED Display
  • Snapdragon 835 Processor (same as Galaxy S8)
  • 6GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage, or 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage (UFS 2.1)
  • No micro-SD card slot
  • Android Nougat with Oxygen OS
  • Dual Rear Cameras – 20 Megapixel f/2.6 camera and secondary 16 Megapixel f/1.7 aperture lens
  • 16 Megapixel front camera
  • Front-facing ceramic fingerprint scanner
  • 3,300 mAh battery with Faster Dash Charging (0-92% in one hour)
  • USB Type-C Port, headphone jack, mute slider button
  • Bottom Firing Speakers, more

OnePlus improved every aspect of the device compared to the OnePlus 3T released in 2016. It’s faster across the board and finally, has a camera that can compete with true flagship smartphones from other companies. All while still managing to keep the phone affordable.

Dual cameras are increasingly more popular as of late. OnePlus took a route similar to Apple, with one sensor allowing users to zoom in on subjects. Additionally, the software experience is revamped and offers similar “portrait” photos with subtle blur effects. The other main camera is fast, accurate, and the company claims it’s one of the fastest auto-focus systems on the market.

So far early reviews are mostly positive, although a few state that while the camera is better it still can’t match the best phones on the market. Then again, you’re getting pretty close for $479.

OnePlus 5 Carrier Support

A lot of potential buyers choose OnePlus for the stock Android experience, premium design, and wallet-friendly price tag. However, a big question is always carrier support. Luckily, this phone works just about everywhere and with most carriers. An exception is usually Verizon, but we do see some Verizon network bands this time, so we’ll have to wait and see once we try it ourselves.

What you need to know is the OnePlus 5 is a true “world phone” with support for 34 network bands across the globe. In the United States, the experience will be best with GSM carriers, such as AT&T, T-Mobile, Metro, and Cricket.

The phone has dual SIM slots for additional options and is completely carrier unlocked. Meaning the OnePlus 5 is unlocked and works instantly with any supported carrier. More details are available here.

OnePlus 5 Price, Color, and Storage

A big part of what makes OnePlus phones popular and successful is the price. Potential buyers get all the flagship specs, features, design and great camera mentioned above that rivals Samsung and Apple at just half the cost. In fact, the OnePlus 5 with 64GB of storage and 6GB of RAM is only $479. Then, you can opt for a model with 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM for truly stunning performance, all for only $539.

OnePlus is offering its new phone in two sleek color options. The Slate Gray color only has 64GB of storage, while the black model has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Sadly it’s one or the other, and we recommend getting the phone with more storage.

As a comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S8 with the same processor, smaller battery, and a single rear camera costs $749 depending on the carrier. Making the OnePlus 5 almost $300 cheaper. Again, it is available now with orders shipping right away, there is no delay.

Other Details

Early sales came with free priority shipping and will dispatch from the warehouse within 24 hours. We’re expecting the same quick arrival until further notice. Keep in mind that over the next few days inventory may dwindle, and shipping times could push back by 2-3 weeks.

OnePlus is offering some special accessory bundles for 50% off at the same time. Get a spare USB Type-C cable, OnePlus 5 protective case or wood back, tempered glass screen protector and USB Type-C OnePlus bullet headphones all at a big discount.

OnePlus continues to offer more accessories with each release, and this is no different. Users can find some of their most popular accessories on sale for 10-20% off at OnePlus.net too.

At the end of the day, all you need to know is the OnePlus 5 is official, available now, and looks to be one of the best price to performance smartphones on the market. It rivals the best phones around and is only $479. Stay tuned for more details and a full review in the near future.
