Spotlight is one of the most useful and under appreciated tools on Macs, and OS X Yosemite hopes to change that with a new look and new features. Instead of sticking in the upper right corner of your monitor, Spotlight is now in the center of the screen and it does much more than search and act as a simple calculator.
When you press CMD and Space the spotlight search menu opens up in the center of your screen where you can search for files on your Mac and much more. The new design and the new features will make this keyboard shortcut and tool essential to even more users.
- New previews of your files so you know if you found the right file.
- Wikipedia results for searches with details in the Spotlight preview.
- Search the iTunes Store for music and movies.
- Movie Showtime results for local theaters.
- Find businesses and places using Apple Maps.
- Convert currency and units of measurement.
- Search your installed Apps.
- Find news on a topic you search.
- Use Spotlight as a calculator by typing a formula in.
These are some of the most interesting new Spotlight features that you can expect to see in OS X Yosemite. |
