Don't Buy The HomePod if You Just Want Voice Control

Don't Buy The HomePod if You Just Want Voice Control

Do you just want voice controls all over your house to control your smart home? If so the HomePod is an expensive way to add voice control since it is about the sound experience, not just about voice control of your smart home.

You might be surprised to learn that most of the HomeKit compatible gadgets you control with Siri or with the Home app on your iPhone or iPad also work with Google Home and Amazon Echo devices.

I've been using Alexa and Google Assistant to control lights and other smart home gadgets throughout my home for over a year and the ability to put a $30 (on sale) Echo Dot in multiple rooms let me spread voice control throughout the house.

There's no way I could spend $1,000 to put three HomePods around the house at this point -- at least not just for voice control.
