The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update release is close for some users in the United States and could start rolling out for the first time later on today.

While the Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat is active inside the United States thanks to Sprint, the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update remains elusive. While U.S. carriers remain silent about release dates, it appears that at least two Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates are poised to hit the United States in the near future.

The Sprint Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update kernel source has been posted to Samsung’s website, a sign that the OTA is just around the corner. We saw the same thing happen with the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update. The kernel source was posted and the OTA announcement was made just a day later.

Sprint typically announces updates through its software update pages which means that users will likely find the full change log and the announcement here on the Galaxy Note 3’s software support page.

The Sprint Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update isn’t the only update poised for release. Thanks to a leaked document, it appears that the U.S. Cellular Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update will begin today as well.

Android Central released a document straight from U.S. Cellular that clearly shows a February 19th release. This is the same day that a document pegged for the U.S. Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat release as well so it could be that U.S. Cellular makes a big Android 4.4 push today to its customers.

Keep in mind, carriers typically take a few days, or even weeks, to complete these roll outs which means that some users likely won’t see the update arrive until next week. Those who do see these updates on day one will likely be able to pull the upgrade through the Settings, in the About section of the phone.

These updates aren’t expected to be game changers but will instead come with some incremental upgrades for the Galaxy Note 3, ahead of the Galaxy S5’s release. The Galaxy S5 is expected to bring new software to the table, software that the Galaxy Note 3 could get with an upcoming Android update.

Android 4.4 KitKat though will likely be small, consisting of several tweaks, enhancements and fixes. Each carrier typically puts their own unique spin on these updates with specific fixes and enhancements.

Release dates for the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update on AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless remain unknown.
