Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat Release Moving Quickly

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat release continues to move swiftly as the Android 4.4 KitKat update today rolled out for a number of other Galaxy S4 variants around the globe.

While the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update rolled out after the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update, its the former that has been rolling out with increasing pace. We’ve already seen it land for a number of carriers in the United States including AT&T and we’ve also seen it emerge for users in the international community.

Today, the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update is pushing out to a wider range of users with Galaxy S4 users in Europe and Asia reportedly getting the update.

We’ve heard from Galaxy S4 owners in the Philippines who have received the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update today and it appears that SamMobile has tracked updates to Poland, Malaysia and Greece. Users in those regions can now find the large update if they check inside the device’s settings.

From what we’ve seen, and heard, these updates are nearly 400MB in size which means that users should set aside some time to install them. The time it takes to download and install will depend on the connection.

As expected, these updates fall in line with the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat updates that we’ve seen emerge in recent days. Instead of a grand overhaul, these Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat updates are primarily made up of Android 4.4 KitKat features. Samsung has also tweaked the UI a bit and the status bar icons will now show up in white.

The swift moving Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update is a good sign for those that are still on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean as it means that the wider push has begun. Samsung rolls updates out in stages. The roll outs start off slowly as Samsung checks for major issues. If there are no major problems, the wider roll out begins.

In the United States, the update has yet to arrive for users on T-Mobile, Verizon and the country’s various pre-paid and regional carriers including C Spire Wireless and Cricket Wireless. Carriers in the United States typically don’t announce release dates ahead of time so it could be that users there will be waiting in the dark.

Typically, carriers in the United States release major updates within a few days of each other so users on T-Mobile and Verizon should continue to be vigilant and have their eyes peeled for the upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat.

I agree with szako. The update has caused irreprable harm to my phone — Sprint is giving me a new S4, without the update. And the update corrupted my SD card so that there is no way I can ever use the card again nor can I retrieve the information off the card. DO NOT INSTALL THE UPDATE.
