Pixel 2 XL Display Fixes & Color Management

At this point, everyone has probably seen the news surrounding the bigger Pixel 2 XL and its screen. While it's not terrible, it's not the best either.

Part of the problem was Google chose to use the sRGB color space, for the most accurate colors possible. And while that's great, it made the phone look pretty dull and boring compared to other AMOLED devices, like the Galaxy S8. Instead of vibrant and saturated colors, everything looks pretty plain. This was by design.

After all the complaints Google made some major changes to fix the situation.

On the Pixel 2 XL, after you get the November update, go into Settings > Display > Advanced. Then, choose Colors, and select from one of the three presets. Out of the box Google leaves the phone on "Natural" and that's what most people want to avoid. It's accurate, but not very pretty.

Boosted cranks up the saturation by about 10-20% and looks a little better. However, there's a new "Saturated" option that really cranks up the saturation and delivers extremely bright, vivid, and pretty colors. Honestly, it's almost too saturated. And we really hope Google gives us full control of the color spectrum in another future update. The Saturated mode is more saturated than even a Galaxy device.

However, this will fix the complaints most owners have with the screen. We recommend using the Boosted mode, but feel free to try Saturated if you want colors to pop.
