Why You Should Start Waiting for the Galaxy S6

Right now is perhaps the best time to start waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and here’s why.

At the tail end of last year, we started to see Samsung Galaxy S6 rumors pick up. And what started as a whisper has grown louder and louder to the point that we have a pretty good idea about what to expect from Samsung’s Next Big Thing.

Samsung Galaxy S6 rumors have touched on just about everything. We’ve seen them point to a number of potential Galaxy S6 specs. We’ve seen them outline the Galaxy S6 launch date. We’ve seen them hint at the software and design. And we’ve even seen them point to the all-important Samsung Galaxy S6 release date for the U.S. and elsewhere.

There hasn’t been a shortage of Galaxy S6 rumors and unsurprisingly, consumers are getting antsy and curious. We’ve spoken to numerous people who are just now starting to look into the Galaxy S6 as a potential replacement for their current device. And while some of these people are more than willing to wait, others are straddling the fence.

Waiting is never easy in the smartphone world. Companies like Samsung typically stick to year cycles for their flagships and rumors often prove unreliable or inconclusive. That said, we think that right now armed with the information that’s come out over the course of the past four weeks, is the perfect time to start waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S6 if you’re in a position to wait.

Galaxy S6 Launch Date

There are four main reasons why we think it’s time to start waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S6. But let’s first get some basics across to those of you that may not be familiar with how these smartphone cycles work.

If you’re looking for a new Android phone right now, you should feed pretty fortunate. Not only have Galaxy S6 rumors matured to the point that we have a pretty good idea about what’s ahead, we’re coming to the end of Samsung’s cycle. Samsung, like many companies, tends to stick to a very specific yearly cycle for its flagship smartphones and we’re quickly approaching last year’s Galaxy S5 launch date.

The first takeaway is that you probably don’t have too much longer to wait. In fact, Samsung Galaxy S6 rumors all point to an arrival at MWC 2015 in Barcelona, Spain. MWC served as last year’s Galaxy S5 launch pad and this year, the event kicks off on March 2nd. March 2nd is rumored to be the Galaxy S6 launch date though that remains unconfirmed.

March 2nd or not, what’s clear is that we’re getting very close. Even Samsung itself has begun teasing its upcoming products, something that tends to happen when we start getting close to launch.

With Samsung’s usual launch window approaching, it’s safe to assume that we’re just a few weeks out from a Galaxy S6 launch date. Maybe just a month out. That’s nothing when you consider the fact that Samsung only releases its Galaxy S once a year.

Galaxy S6 Release Date

If a Samsung Galaxy S6 launch date is close, and it appears that it is, then a Galaxy S6 release date is probably only a few weeks away as well. Samsung historically has released its Galaxy S about a month after its announcement though the Galaxy S6 is rumored to be coming two to three weeks earlier this year. It’s not clear what that might mean though and arrival in late March or early April is possible. The point is, we’re probably getting very close.

Samsung’s Galaxy S6 is all but confirmed for all five top carriers in the United States (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, and Verizon). You should be able to pick and choose, something that isn’t always the case with Android devices. A widespread Galaxy S6 release and a release that’s clearly getting closer. We think that’s certainly worth the wait.

If that’s not enough to convince you, consider this. The HTC One M9, a sleek successor for last year’s HTC One M8, is set to arrive on March 1st. In other words, we could see two big time Android smartphone releases inside a few short weeks. From what we’ve seen, the new HTC One appears to be a worthy successor to last year’s model and it could be a solid competitor to the Galaxy S6.

By waiting, two new doors (Galaxy S6, new HTC One) will open up. That doesn’t happen very often.

Galaxy S6 Specs

The final piece to this puzzle are the Galaxy S6 specs. Galaxy S6 rumors point to a significant change from the Galaxy S5 and Samsung continues to preach about a shift to premium and innovative designs. The point being that the Galaxy S6 probably won’t be your standard, run-of-the-mill Galaxy S smartphone. It has the potential to be something big, something special. Combine that with the short wait time and you can probably see why we’re making this recommendation today.

Samsung Galaxy S6 - Exciting Tech 2015

You might wind up hating the changes that Samsung’s made to TouchWiz and to the Galaxy S. But in our humble opinion, it’s worth waiting to see what the company has up its sleeve. Its mobile business is struggling and it needs to compete against the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. This could be the year that we something big, something on par with the Galaxy S3 launch all those years ago.

Price Cuts

Maybe you do end up hating the Galaxy S6. Well, good thing you waited because now, you’re most likely going to have access to a number of cheaper flagship options including the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8.

We almost always see price cuts emerge on top Android phones once new flagships are rolled out and we expect nothing less here. Look for devices like the Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 and maybe even the LG G3 and Moto X to drop as retailers look to make them attractive to those that aren’t sold on the Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9 features.

Expect an upgraded Galaxy S6 camera.

To us, this brings the whole waiting idea full circle. By waiting just a few weeks, you not only open yourself up to two new and potentially great smartphone options but you also will probably be looking at cheap prices on the current flagship models. It’s a win-win in our eyes and that’s why we, if we were in the market for a new device and had the ability to wait, would start waiting right now for the Galaxy S6 launch date to arrive.
