5 Best iPad Mini Alternatives

Earlier this week, Apple sent out invitations for an event set to take place in San Jose on October 29th. The invite did not reveal exactly what Apple has planned for the event but the company is widely expected to announce a new iPad tablet, the 7.85-inch iPad Mini. However, the iPad Mini won’t be alone. In fact, there are other 7-inch tablets and even a smaller device that will be competing with Apple’s new iPad for sales this holiday season.

If Apple does indeed launch a smaller iPad as is expected, it will be the first time the company has released a tablet with a form factor smaller than the current 9.7-inch iPad.

The device is expected to take on competitors from like Google, Barnes and Noble and Amazon in the 7-inch tablet space, a space that has, up until now, been dominated by the Android operating system.

This holiday season however, users will have an assortment of 7-inch tablets to choose from including Apple’s new iPad. Fortunately, if Apple’s iPad Mini isn’t up to snuff, there are some very viable competitors that will warrant a look from consumers.

Here are five iPad Mini competitors that consumers should weigh as options in the weeks ahead.

Google Nexus 7

Google Nexus 7

Maybe the biggest competition to the iPad Mini is the Google Nexus 7, a device that's made by prominent Android manufacturer, Asus. The Nexus 7 is currently the king of the 7-inch tablet realm with its gorgeous display, well-built design, quad-core processor, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system that is Google's best yet.

Google also offers it with competitive pricing. $199 nets a 8GB Nexus 7 while $249 will get a 32GB Nexus.

The company is expected to announce a 32GB Nexus 7 model at the end of the month, possibly for $249, which would make it an even more attractive option for those looking to get a new 7-inch tablet.
