Realistic Routes and Catches

While players are running a route there is now realistic hand fighting in the lead up to the pas and then there is now an option for the player to go for an aggressive catch by holding Y. This combines to deliver a more realistic game experience. Part of the drawback to the aggressive catch is that when a player goes for this when they are wide open, they may catch the ball but fall to the ground or come back to catch and lose yards.

Upgraded Tackles

In Madden 16 we also get upgraded tackles including a gang-tackle that includes three players teaming up on the ball carrier to shut down an attempt at adding yards after the catch.

The number of players who will join a gang tackle is organic and will shift depending on proximity of other players and the momentum of the ball carrier. EA did not confirm that you can pull 11 players down the field with you, but we should see some big gang tackles in Madden 16.

The conservative tackle sports a tuned tackle cone and match distance to avoid suction and warping that pulled defenders to the ball carrier. Aggressive tackles now dive towards the player, instead of where he is facing.

New Madden 16 Catches

EA Sports highlighted the new passing and catching at E3 2015, but now that we can watch Madden 16 gameplay videos we can see how this works on the screen with feedback about the type of pass thrown and AI hints at the type of catch to attempt.

With a RAC – Run After Catch – catch attempt the player has a better chance of adding yards to the play. When you go for an aggressive catch near the sideline you also run the risk of not landing inbounds like you might with a different style catch.
