macOS Big Sur 11.1 lets you use the Ecosia search engine option in Safari.

If you're still on macOS Catalina or an older version of macOS, note that macOS Big Sur brings some essential upgrades to the company's Safari browser. If you're a heavy Safari user, you'll probably want to install the new operating system in the near future.

The new operating system includes a variety of changes including a customizable start page where you can set a background image and select new sections to display on the start page.

You can see more tabs at once thanks to a redesign, you can get website previews by holding the pointer over a tab, you can translate entire web pages in Safari, and you can even import passwords and settings from Chrome for the first time.

Apple's made speed improvements. The company says Safari now loads frequently visited sites 50 percent faster on average than Google's Chrome browser.

The company also says Safari is now optimized specifically for Mac which means it should be more efficient than other browsers.

Apple says you can now stream video for up to one and a half hours longer and browse the web for up to one hour longer on a Mac compared with Chrome or Firefox.
