If you want to play Starfield the second it's released, you'll want to pre-order.

If you pre-order the Premium edition or Constellation edition, you can start playing the game up to five days before its September 6th release date.

You can also upgrade to the Premium edition if you decide you want the early release date and the bonuses that come with the bundle.

If you pre-order a digital copy of Starfield, you can pre-load it onto your console.Pre-loading the game files ahead of time will allow you to jump right in when the game unlocks.

Bethesda's confirmed Starfield's unlock times for regions around the world. If you pre-load the game ahead of time, and you live on the west coast of the United States, you'll be able to start playing at 5PM on August 31st/September 5th.
