While you might be tempted to buy an older Pixel device like the Pixel 6 or Pixel 5, software support for those devices will end much earlier than support for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Fewer updates means fewer features, bug fixes, and security patches. 

According to a leak from 9to5Google, Google is preparing to increase the length of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro's software support in effort to best Samsung's four plus years of support and perhaps match the iPhone. 

This is something to keep in mind if you plan to hold onto your next phone for awhile.
