7 Things to Know About the iPhone 7 iOS 12.4.1 Update

Published

on

The iOS 12.4.1 update is a small maintenance release, but it could have a noticeable impact on your iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus’ performance.

The iOS 12.4.1 update is performing well on our iPhone 7 models right now, but some users are running into trouble after making the move to the latest version of iOS 12.

iPhone 7 users are complaining about a variety of iOS 12.4.1 problems including weird battery drain, Bluetooth issues, Wi-Fi problems, and issues with first and third-party applications.

Moving to iOS 12.4.1 could fix any issues you’re seeing on older versions of iOS 12, but moving to the new firmware is still a bit of a gamble if you’re having a great experience on iOS 12.4, iOS 12.3.1, iOS 12.3, iOS 12.2, iOS 12.1.4, iOS 12.1.3, iOS 12.1.2, iOS 12.1.1, iOS 12.1, iOS 12.0.1, iOS 12.0, or iOS 11.

If you install iOS 12.4.1 on your iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus and can’t stand it, you can try downgrading to the previous version. That said, Apple has stopped signing on older versions of iOS 12 so those of you thinking about upgrading from iOS 12.3.1 and below need to approach iOS 12.4.1 with caution.

In this guide to the iPhone 7 iOS 12.4.1 update we’ll help you make a decision. We’ve been testing the iPhone 7’s iOS 12.4.1 update looking at key areas like battery life, connectivity, and speed. We’ve also been monitoring feedback from other iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus users.

iPhone 7 iOS 12.4.1 Impressions & Performance

iPhone 7 iOS 12.4.1 Impressions & Performance

We've been using iOS 12.4.1 for a short time and we haven't noticed any huge differences between it and iOS 12.4 in terms of performance. That's a good thing. iOS 12.4 performed quite well on our iPhone 7's.

iOS 12.4.1 still feels a lot faster than iOS 11 did on the iPhone 7. Animations and transitions are crisp and apps still open a whole lot quicker than they did on the previous operating system.

We haven't noticed any significant slowdown when using the keyboard or when pulling up our Notifications or Control Center.

Even little things like transitioning from a phone call back to the home screen, are faster with iOS 12 on board.

Battery life is stable and we haven't noticed any weird drain during our time with the software. Battery life appears to be normal.

We've been able to connect to several different routers (including eero) and we've successfully paired the devices with various Bluetooth devices (headsets, speakers).

At this point, given what's on board, most iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus users should install the iOS 12.4.1 update today.
