If you can't stand Android Oreo and/or its performance, you can always drop back down to an older version of Android. 

If the going gets tough you can always try downgrading to Android Nougat (or an older version of Android Oreo) in an effort to improve your device's performance. 

If don't know how the downgrade process works for Nexus phones take a look at this guide from the Nexus Help Forums. This walkthrough takes you through the proper way to flash new software on a Nexus device. 

There's no guarantee downgrading to Nougat will fix your issues, but it's worth a shot if you can't seem to fix your problems.
