Star Wars Battlefront 2: Which Edition to Buy?

Thinking about buying Star Wars Battlefront? Make sure you buy the right edition.

The Star Wars Battlefront 2 release date is finally here for PS4, Xbox One, and Windows PC. The game is compatible with the new Xbox One X, but it’s unclear if DICE has plans for the Nintendo Switch.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 picks up where the 2015 version left off. The game includes an expansive multiplayer mode that spans across several eras of the series. It also features a more robust single-player experience that puts gamers into the shoes of an elite Imperial soldier.

It’s an exciting entry into the Star Wars series of games and some of you might be tempted to pickup a copy as we push away from its release date.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is available at several different retailers including Amazon and GameStop. And if you’ve looked into buying the game you’ve probably noticed a few different editions.

Today we want to go over each of these Star Wars Battlefront 2 editions and help you make the right choice in November, December, and beyond.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Standard Edition

The most basic version of Star Wars Battlefront is the standard edition. This version of the game retailers for $60 though you can already find some deals.

Amazon Prime and Best Buy Gamers Club Unlocked members can take 20% off while EA Origin/EA Access subscribers can take 10%.

The standard version of the game has the cheapest price, but it delivers the least amount of content.

For $60 or less, you’ll get a copy of the game and if you’re lucky, you’ll get some nice pre-order bonuses including Star Wars: The Last Jedi themed looks for Kylo Ren and Rey, an ability modifier that upgrades the Millennium Falcon, and epic ability modifiers for Rey and Kylo Ren. The game is out, but still might be able to snag the pre-order bonus if you order soon.

Who should buy the Star Wars Battlefront 2 standard edition?

• Newcomers to the Star Wars Battlefront series.
• Those of you that don’t have a ton of time to play games.

The standard version is the cheapest, and safest, version of the game.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition

There’s another version of Star Wars Battlefront 2 called the Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition. This edition is a little more expensive, but it comes with some bonus items you don’t get right away with the standard version of the game.

The Star Wars Battlefront 2 Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition retails for $80, less if you can find a deal, and it nets you some nice extras.

The Deluxe version comes with upgraded versions of all four trooper classes (Officer, Assault, Heavy, and Specialist), four epic ability upgrades (one for each trooper class), instant weapon unlocks and weapon modifications for each trooper class, exclusive Kylo Ren and Rey-themed looks, epic ability modifiers for Kylo Ren and Rey, and an epic ability modifier for the Millennium Falcon.

You’ll be able to unlock the extra content from the Deluxe Edition by playing the game, but it could take some of you quite a bit of time to obtain these extras.

So who should shell out the extra $20 for the Deluxe Edition?

• People who know they are going to invest a ton of time in Star Wars Battlefront 2.
• People that enjoy having more than just the base items/skins unlocked at the start.

Battlefront 2 Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition Figure Bundle

GameStop is selling the Deluxe Edition with a 6-inch Battlefront 2 Inferno Squadron Agent Figure bundled in. You won’t find this bundle at Amazon or Walmart because it’s a GameStop exclusive.

The Star Wars Battlefront 2 Elite Trooper Deluxe Figure bundle costs $102.99 making it the most expensive option on shelves right now.

The only people who should order this bundle are buyers who absolutely know they want the collectible for their kids or for themselves.

If you’re on the fence, it might be a good idea to go hands-on with the figurine before you buy.

Console Exclusive

If you own a Windows PC and a console (PS4/Xbox One) and you’re interested in the co-op portion of the game, you might want to consider buying the console edition.

The console version of Star Wars Battlefront 2 features an offline co-op mode that’s exclusive to Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One. From Microsoft:

Get ready to team up with your friends from the comfort of your couch as the two of you battle across the Star Wars universe. In this mode, you’ll be able to earn customization rewards and bring those upgrades with you to the online multiplayer battleground.

If that sounds at all interesting to you, think about picking up the game for the Xbox One or the PlayStation 4.

Digital vs. Physical Edition

You’ll also need to decide between a physical version and a digital copy of Star Wars Battlefront 2. There are advantages, and disadvantages, to both.

If you order the physical version of Star Wars Battlefront 2 you’ll be able to sell it to Amazon or a store like GameStop for credit toward another game. You’ll also be able to sell it for cash via a reseller like eBay or Craigslist.

You’ll also be able to lend your copy of Star Wars Battlefront 2 out to your friends or family members if you start to dislike it or grow tired of the content.

There are also some advantages to buying the game digitally.

If you’re the parent of a destructive child, or if you yourself tend to take horrible care of your discs, it might be wise to buy a digital copy.

You should also consider the convenience of a digital copy. If you buy Battlefront 2 digitally, you won’t have to look for and/or pop in the disc every time you want to play.

Picking up a digital copy can also help you cut down on clutter.
