However, if you want to add text, background music, transitions, or narrate your clips, the basic editor simply isn’t good enough. That’s where Movie Maker comes in, Samsung’s hidden advanced video editing tool. Our video below shows you how to get it, and what it has to offer.

How to Install the Galaxy S8 Movie Maker to Edit Videos

For whatever reason Samsung hides its impressive video editor on the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S8, Note 8 and more. Once you download it from the Galaxy App store, it opens the door to truly get creative.

To start, simply open a video from the gallery on the Galaxy S8. Tap the Edit button, then choose Movie Maker on the bottom right. You’ll get a prompt to download the application, so do that next.

Once you download Movie Maker it’s now on your device. This is a dedicated app you can open in the app drawer to create a video. Additionally, the shortcut is in the editing tools menu of the gallery.

Fire up Samsung’s Movie Maker and get familiar with all of the options. There are some basic tips and instructions at the beginning. Hit next and go through the tips, then import videos or photos. Once you add some video, hit done and import them into the full Galaxy S8 video editor.

How to Use Samsung’s Galaxy S8 Video Editor

In our video below we go over all of these steps, and show you everything this application has to offer. Samsung offers a few basic pre-designed video editing templates too, in case you’re in a hurry. Choose from the list of templates, or hit custom and make your own video creation.

With Movie Maker open, you now have access to all of the advanced controls. Watch our video above to see some of what’s available. Add animations, transitions, effects, text, backgrounds, overlays, or even import other photos, video or sound files.

Everything is easy to navigate on the touchscreen. Swipe to scroll through the video, drag to shrink your clip, and watch for additional options to popup at the top right throughout the process. Like changing the volume, adding text, or rotating photos.

Once you’re done creating a video hit save in the top corner. This saves your progress and exports the video to your gallery all at the same time. On older Samsung devices, you may need to save AND export the file. Choose the video quality you’d like, name the video, and you’re all set.
