Start Prepping For Android Pie

Since Android Pie is only available for the Pixel, and Samsung will likely take months to send it to owners, take this time to prepare for the update.

Use this time wisely to start prepping your phone for Android 9.0 Pie.

If you prepare now, you won't be scrambling to back up your phone or make preparations once it's finally ready. Some of these steps might seem tedious, particularly to power users, but they'll help prevent potential headaches and save you time.

You should dig into your phone's storage and clear out the files you no longer need. Deleting old apps, music, videos or photos will give you enough space for the update when it finally comes. We expect it to be a pretty hefty download.

You should also start backing up the data you store on your Galaxy, Pixel, or LG phone on a regular basis. Some of you are already doing this. Whether you use Samsung SmartSwitch, LG Backup tools, or Google's own solutions, the choice is yours. I use Samsung SmartSwitch, backup my texts with SMS Backup & Restore, and use Google Photos to make copies of every photo or video I take. I'm prepared, are you?

We also recommend tracking down your login information from the apps and services you regularly use. There's a chance Android P will log you out of some of these and you'll want to have the passwords handy, especially if you rely on these apps and services for work or school. That's because Android P added some helpful new auto-fill controls to make remembering passwords even easier.

The more prepared you are the better.
