When to Expect Updates

Ok. Now that we've gone over some of the basics and explained a lot about Android Pie, you're probably excited. When will you actually get it? We don't know.

Here's the deal. Google just released Android 9.0 Pie on August 6th, but only for a few phones.

However, almost everyone else will end up waiting for 2, 3, or even 6 months for Android P. And while we did mention that Treble and betas could make updates arrive faster, we're not holding our breath. Mainly because manufacturers like Samsung haven't had time to fully implement Treble into its latest phones.

So while we'd love to see Android 9.0 Pie arrive sometime in November or December for the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S9, we seriously doubt that'll actually happen. Maybe next year. Instead, expect updates for most devices (that aren't a Pixel) sometime in early 2019. That's just the nature of Android software updates right now. Sorry.
