Last year the Moto E also made our list as it was truly the cheapest quality smartphone around. Something for anyone on an extremely tight budget, or for emerging markets. In 2015 Motorola surprised everything with an all-new Moto E (2nd Gen) for 2015, and it's quite impressive.

The new Moto E delivers a quad-core processor, 4G LTE and Android Lollipop in a small package for just $149 without a contract. The screen is bigger at 4.5-inches, but still offers a low 960 x 540 resolution. They also took out the dual front facing speakers, but added a bigger screen and full 4G LTE support. It's still cheap, being $149, and a 3G-only option is in the works for $119. Crazy cheap, right?

The Moto E 2015 runs on Android 5 Lollipop out of the box, and has plenty to offer for a first time smartphone buyer, or someone on a serious budget. It's recently been updated to Android 5.1 Lollipop
