Apple leather in black has been good to me. Looks good, feels good and good protection for a generally responsible person with only occasional drops. Definitely stick with darker colours.
I went with black to match my iPad but all the lighter coloured ones I’ve seen other people with look pretty badly discoloured

I agree with all of the list except the screen protector. $35 for a screen protector seems a bit steep to me, the one I’m currently using cost me $10 and works perfectly fine. Here’s the one I use: https://www.accessorytree.com/tempered-glass-lcd-screen-protector-cover-guard-for-apple-iphone-6-4-7/
