The HP Envy 13 has internals just as robust as the Surface Laptop and costs $779. Compare that to the $999 starting price of the Surface Laptop, which comes with fewer ports and RAM.
Buyers get a lot of power for that price. There’s an Intel Core i5 processor, Intel HD 620 graphics a 13.3-inch FHD display, 8GB of RAM and a 128GB solid-state drive for fast start-up times. It has 1 USB 3.0 Type-C port for docking, a microSD Card slot, a headset jack and 2 USB 3.1 ports for connecting cameras and a mouse. A full-size HDMI port connects to televisions and monitors without dongles. The HP Envy 13 does not have a touchscreen.
In some ways, the two devices are similar. Both notebooks last for 14.5 hours of video playback. They each have Windows Hello cameras that let users sign in without using a password.
HP uses polished silver aluminum for the entire notebook's body, which does add some heft. The Surface Laptop weighs 2.76 pounds compared to the HP Envy 13’s 3.7 pounds. If weight is a concern of yours, this notebook is not for you.
