Start by buying Microsoft’s new Surface Pen. A 2017 Surface Pro can detect 4,096 different levels of pressure from it as you write or draw. Microsoft sells it in red, silver, black, blue and aqua to match your Surface Type Cover.

Once you have it, tap or click on the pen icon in the bottom-left corner of your screen. Now open SketchPad. It has three sets of digital pens, a protractor and a ruler to help you get started with your sketch. Quickly closing the app doesn’t delete your progress and you can share your creation with other apps without opening your email.
