Galaxy Note 5 vs. Galaxy S6: 5 Things We Learned in June
Galaxy Note 5 Design Could Be Similar
Samsung typically does a good job shrouding its Galaxy S and Galaxy Note designs from view ahead of big launch dates. We usually see a ton of misdirection ahead of a launch and Samsung's announcements typically come with some surprises. In June, we saw a number of Galaxy Note 5 design details emerge though we're still nowhere close to having the whole picture. That may not happen until a few days before the Galaxy Note 5 launch or at the launch event itself. Here's what we learned though. A recent leak has generated some excitement because it suggests that Samsung will use a Galaxy S6-style design with the Galaxy Note 5. If you're not familiar, the Galaxy S6's design language is comprised of glass and metal. The supposed Galaxy Note 5 renders don't confirm the build materials exactly and it's not clear if a change to a new premium design would spell doom for a microSD card slot or removable battery. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge don't have a expandable storage or a removable battery. We learned a few other things too. We learned that the Galaxy Note 5 might be 7.9mm thin. By comparison, the Galaxy S6 is 6.8mm thin and the Galaxy S6 Edge is 7mm. Last year's Galaxy Note 4 is 8.5mm thin so this would be a huge change. We've also heard that the device might utilize a USB Type-C port. If that's true, it would mean data transfers up to 10Gbps. That's double the speed of standard USB 3.0 and that would be big for a media-driven device like the Galaxy Note. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge use USB 3.0.
