Galaxy S9 vs Galaxy S8: Specs

These days all phones are pretty fast and capable, but Samsung's are near the top of the list. As a result, we wanted to run down the specs and features these phones have to offer. This way you'll get a breakdown of each one, and what makes the Galaxy S9 better.

Galaxy S8 Specs

  • 5.8 and 6.2-inch 2960 x 1440 Quad-HD AMOLED Curved Displays
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 or Samsung Exynos Processor
  • 64GB of internal storage (Micro-SD slot included) and 4GB RAM
  • Android 7.0 Nougat with Samsung TouchWiz
  • 12 Dualpixel Rear Camera - OIS, phase detection auto-focus, f/1.7 aperture
  • 8 megapixel front camera with auto-focus, f/1.7 aperture
  • Fingerprint & Iris Scanner, facial unlocking
  • IP68 dust & water resistance
  • 3,000 and 3,500 mAh battery with Fast & Wireless Charging
  • Improved Always-On Display
  • Samsung Pay, Bixby Virtual Assistant, USB Type-C, 3.5mm headphone jack, more

As you can see, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ have plenty to offer. They're still highly capable and very powerful smartphones. More than enough for anyone. However, the S9 is even better.

Galaxy S9 Specs (Official)

  • 5.8 and 6.2-inch 2960 x 1440 Quad-HD AMOLED Curved Displays
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 or Samsung Exynos Processors
  • 64GB of internal storage (Micro-SD slot included) and 4GB RAM (6GB on Galaxy S9+)
  • Android 8.0 Oreo with Samsung Experience UI
  • 12 Dualpixel Rear Camera - OIS, phase detection auto-focus, variable f/1.5-2.4 aperture camera, 960 FPS slow-motion, more
  • Dual 12MP cameras on the bigger Galaxy S9+ (like the Note 8) with OIS
  • 8 megapixel front camera with autofocus, f/1.7 aperture
  • Fingerprint Scanner & Face Unlock (Using Iris and Face-unlock technology combined)
  • IP68 dust & water resistance (5ft for 30 minutes)
  • 3,000 and 3,500 mAh battery with Fast & Wireless Charging
  • Always-On Display, 3D Emoji (like animoji)
  • Samsung Pay, Bixby Virtual Assistant, USB Type-C, 3.5mm headphone jack, more

As you can see, the Galaxy S9 is marginally unchanged from last year. This is similar to an "S" yearly upgrade by Apple, more than a radical new phone. Still, it's the latest and greatest with a world-class design, features, and camera.

Keep in mind that the new Snapdragon 845 processor should improve performance, battery life, gaming, camera features, VR, and other things. Bundle that with the latest Android 8.0 Oreo, dual cameras on the S9+, and these are two great phones.
