So those are some reasons to feel excited about the Galaxy Tab's Android Oreo update. It won't be perfect, but it'll bring some nice upgrades to select Galaxy tablets. Keyword: "Select."

As of right now, the Galaxy Tab Oreo update is confirmed for several models: The Galaxy Tab S3, the Galaxy Tab E 8 on T-Mobile, the Galaxy Tab A8 and the Galaxy Tab A10.1.

An unofficial list of Samsung Galaxy Android updates also includes the Galaxy Tab S2, the Galaxy Tab A from 2016 and 2017, and the Galaxy Tab active 2.

Samsung typically keeps devices upgraded with major Android updates for two years which means the Galaxy Tab A and Galaxy Tab active 2 should get Android Oreo. The Galaxy Tab S2 and any other Galaxy Tab released more than two years ago are on the outside looking in.

Samsung still hasn't shown a willingness to keep up with Apple's software support (it keeps its phones and tablets updated with new features for four years) so odds are good the Galaxy Tab S2 (and other models from 2015) is left behind on Nougat.

At this point, it's up to Samsung and the company, thus far, has shown an unwillingness to keep up with competitors like Apple. Apple keeps its device upgraded with software updates for four full years before dropping support.

If you own an older Galaxy Tab, you might have to rely on unofficial Android Oreo software.
