Use One AirPod at a Time
The trick that I’ve been using to get around bad AirPods battery life is using one AirPod at a time. This helps when on phone calls, where my AirPods battery life has been the worst.
Instead of putting both AirPods in when you take a call or want to listen to music, put one in and use it until it dies. Then you can switch and charge up the first AirPod while you are using the second.
It’s not a perfect solution for music, but it does help with calls and audio books. In just 15 minutes you get up to 3 hours of listening and up to 2 hours of talk time.
Turn off Hey Siri on AirPods 2
AirPods 2 already include better battery life on calls thanks to Bluetooth 5.0, but you can make it even better by turning off Hey Siri on your iPhone or iPad.
Hey Siri is always listening for you to say, “Hey Siri”, which cuts into battery life. This is only a feature on AirPods 2, and this will only help you with AirPods 2 battery life.
To do this, you need to turn off Hey Siri on your iPhone or iPad.
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Tap on Siri & Search.
- Toggle Listen for “Hey Siri” to off.
If you use multiple devices that work with Hey Siri, you will need to turn it off on each of them for this to work. You can still double tap on the AirPods to use the Siri. If you regularly use your Apple AirPods with the Apple Watch, you may need to turn it off there as well.
