How to Reset a Frozen Moto G6

Published

In this quick guide we’ll show you how to reset a frozen Moto G6 or Moto G6 Play. If your phone is acting funny, frozen, or completely unresponsive we’re here to help. If you’re having problems follow our easy steps instead of calling customer support or driving to the store for help.

The new Moto G6 has a premium design, one that looks like a far more expensive device. And while it looks good, the back is no longer removable. This means you can’t remove the battery when the phone is frozen or problems arise.

Did you know a quick reboot will fix almost any minor Moto G6 problem? It’s a quick easy trick everyone should know. Here are the instructions.

How to Reboot a Frozen Moto G6

Every phone that doesn’t have a removable battery has some sort of “hard reset” or hard reboot option. As a reminder, this will not erase any data or content on your phone.

“If your device is unresponsive, frozen, or the screen is blank/black, press and hold down the Power button for 10-20 seconds to restart it.”

Again, on the Moto G6, G6 Play or G6 Plus all you do is press and hold down the power button for 10-20 seconds. On some devices you hold multiple buttons down, but not on Moto phones. If your phone isn’t working right or it’s frozen, just press and hold down the power key until it vibrates and reboots. It’s that easy.

After holding down the power key for around 10 seconds the Moto G will automatically vibrate, turn off, and reboot back to normal operation. If it’s really frozen you might have to hold down for the full 20 seconds, if not a little longer. This works even when the screen is black, frozen, or completely off. Almost any situation will fix itself using this trick.

Once done the device will restart and go through the usual boot process. Again, this will not delete any data, apps or music. It’s just a forced reboot.

Other Details

In some situations, your phone will reboot into a maintenance, recovery, or safe mode. This will look different from a normal reboot, and you’ll end up in a maintenance mode. Use the volume up/down keys to navigate through the list of options, then tap on power to select one from the list.

Scroll down to reboot, and hit the power button to select it and reboot your Moto G6. Now, you’re all done and everything will be back to normal.
