iOS 12.4 Download Size

We don't have an exact download size, but you can expect a fairly large download given that it's a milestone upgrade.

You can expect the download to take five minutes or so, but the installation process could take 10 minutes or more depending your current version of iOS.

If you're running older software, like iOS 11.4.1, your download will likely be bigger and your installation time will likely be longer.

Once you pull the iOS 12.4 update from Apple's servers, you might notice a prompt asking you to "Install" the software right now or "Later."

While most of you will probably want to install iOS 12.4 right away, others might benefit from scheduling the installation.

If you decide to schedule the iOS 12.4 update, you can choose to install it while you're sleeping or you can have your device remind you to install it at a later date when you've got more time.

If you do decide to install the iOS 12.4 update overnight, you'll have to plug the device into a power source.

Release of the update sooner rather than later would be helpful. I’m encountering a set-up issue with a new ipad Pro (2018 version) – so Apple’s latest release (and a very pricey one at that). The latest version of IOS available for the ipad is 12.1.1, but my iphone6s runs on IOS 12.1.2. All my iCloud backups (visible on the ipad) are in IOS version 12.1.2. On setting up the ipad, it prompts to restore from Icloud, but because the IOS versions do not align, the ipad is unable to set up based on my iPhone’s backup. I have spent hours on the phone with Apple Support, and the best they have to offer are (i) time consuming and suboptimal workarounds or (ii) waiting on IOS 12.1.3’s release…

You should also start backing up the data you store on your device(s). If you don’t know where to start, you’ll want to dig into our guides covering iCloud backups and iTunes backups. Data loss issues are pretty rare, but there’s always a chance something gets lost in the shuffle as you transition to a new version of iOS.
