iPhone 7 Features
Along with a new design we expect new iPhone 7 features to separate the device from the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s in consumer minds. This is important as Apple normally continues to sell some of the older models.
iPhone 7 features are only rumors at this time, but in addition to a possible transition from 3.5mm to Lightning connected headphones there are some interesting possibilities.
Kuo believes that the iPhone 7 will feature a new Apple A10 chip and the iPhone 7 will include 2GB of RAM while a larger iPhone 7 Plus will feature 3GB of RAM.
Apple added 3D Touch to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus that allows users to push harder on the screen to use secondary controls, shortcuts and game controls. We expect 3D Touch on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
Bloomberg reports that Apple opened a secret research facility in Taiwan, where the company is working on new screen technology that could appear in the iPhone 7 or beyond. The goal is to deliver, "thinner, lighter, brighter and more energy-efficient" screen technology. Apple could use a better LCD display or switch to an OLED display that is thinner and does not need a backlight.
An Apple patent shows the company is working on a self-healing port that keeps water out with a seal that breaks when you plug-in a cord, and then heals itself when you remove the cord to maintain a waterproof experience. The iPhone 6s features a better seal than previous models, but it is not waterproof. It's important to remember that many Apple patents do not come to life in products at all, so this isn't a sure thing.
Apple is reportedly working on up to five iPhone 7 prototypes including some with a USB Type C connector, wireless charging , multi-force 3D Touch, dual cameras and a fingerprint sensor built-in to the screen. We could see a few features jump from prototype to the final product, but many will likely be left for future models.
