OnePlus 5 vs OnePlus 3: Specs

On the inside, we find the other substantial upgrades. And while they're expected with each new generation, it's the biggest reason for many to buy the OnePlus 5.

This year the company took Samsung head on, and delivered a phone that matches the popular Galaxy S8 across the board, and beats it in some areas. That's impressive given the $479 price point. Here's what you need to know about both OnePlus phones.

OnePlus 5 Specifications

  • 5.5-inch 1080p HD AMOLED Display
  • Snapdragon 835 Processor (same as Galaxy S8)
  • 6GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage, or 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage
  • No micro-SD card slot
  • Android Nougat with Oxygen OS
  • Dual Rear Cameras – 20 Megapixel f/2.6 camera and secondary 16 Megapixel f/1.7 aperture lens
  • 16 Megapixel front camera
  • Front-facing ceramic fingerprint scanner
  • 3,300 mAh battery with Faster Dash Charging (0-92% in one hour)
  • USB Type-C Port, headphone jack, mute slider button
  • Bottom Firing Speakers, more

As you can see, the new OnePlus 5 has everything you'd want from a flagship smartphone. The only notable omissions are a micro-SD slot and maybe water resistance.

OnePlus 3 Specs

  • 5.5-inch 1080p HD AMOLED Display
  • Snapdragon 820 Processor
  • 6GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage
  • Android Nougat with Oxygen OS (updated from Marshmallow)
  • 16 Megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture
  • 8 Megapixel front camera
  • Front-facing fingerprint scanner
  • 3,000 mAh battery with Dash Charging
  • USB Type-C Port, headphone jack, mute slider button
  • Bottom Firing Speakers, Dual Sim, more

As you can see the changes are huge, but they're important. Everything is better across the board. And while the OnePlus 3 was already incredibly fast, the Snapdragon 835 processor will make it both faster and more efficient. Add in a bigger battery and Android 7.0 Nougat, buyers can expect big increases in battery life.

You'll get a phone that lasts longer, looks good, takes great photos, has three cameras and charges even faster. The new Dash Charging in the OnePlus 5 can go from 0-92% in just one hour. So while these aren't revolutionary changes, it's more than enough to make the switch for most. The battery life and camera alone make it a worthy upgrade.
